The Measure of Things

Project Overview:
​The Measure of Things is an indoor installation that involves earth sculptures and a concrete path, which is the negative space of the ground at a graveyard.  This work continues to explore themes of migration and trajectory.

Concrete Path: 
Where do you go mourn your loved ones when their last will was to be buried in a complex homeland to go to?  While walking in a graveyard, I noticed my feet tracing the irregularities of the ground, which were caused by burials.  This reminded me of the sensation that one experiences right before they fall asleep, giving a fake kick, or the sensation of falling into the void when you miss a step on a staircase.  I cast the ground based on that physical sensation to think about questions of permanence and reverberation.

Vegetal Scalp:
Uprooted high grass braided and dragged across a long distance.  This piece investigate themes of trajectory, agency, and disruption.  I was drawn to engage formally with the idea of being displaced and leaving your head behind.

Excavation:
The pile of earth’s dimension ressemble the (HLM) project building I grew up in in Paris.  One of this place where the majority of families are arabic from North African origin.
