I am delighted to present In : Flux : Being an online booth with CADAF | Contemporary & Digital Art Fair featuring nine short video-art pieces and experimental films at the intersection of performance and sculpture through June 25-28.
I started working in sculpture but felt that it was too static, leading me to activate and document works on video. Little by little, some of these sculptures required protagonists to propel their motion, pushing me towards performance. I like to work outside of the studio and am inspired by specific locations. These actions unspool in mundane places, whose scenery echoes poetically in an abstract way with experiences and feelings that are hard to convey solely through narrative. Art, for me, is a ritual that has the power to disrupt reality.
These video works each follow their own absurd logic, addressing with beauty, humor and anxiety themes of migration, class, assimilation, and gender. The aim is to destabilize the viewer, where they are not quite sure what they are watching, but can’t turn away because of the mesmerizing elements within, in an effort to approach these themes from a renewed vantage.
