Excited to contribute with food & sculpture to Missing Luncheon on 20 June at the Flux Factory:
Din Din: Missing LuncheonJune 20 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Missing Luncheon is facilitated by Karen Krolak with food by Bianca Boragi, featuring “Breakaway” by Heather Kapplow.
This event is part of the exhibition Din Din, a series of free, socially-distanced outdoor public events which use food and art to build community.
ReservationsServed in Two Seatings
For the 1pm Seating, Please Make a Reservation here
For the 4pm Seating, Please Make a Reservation here
RSVP Mandatory
Location: 39-22 29th St, Long Island City
Program DescriptionWho or what did you lose in this last year? Normally, we gather together with loved ones over food after funerals, break ups, and job endings but the pandemic halted that system of support. If you have been longing for one of these meals, Karen Krolak, creator of the Dictionary of Negative Space, invites you to gather in the garden where laughter, tears, and awkward pauses are welcome to flow. We will dine on a French feast designed by Bianca Boragi and experience a poetic pop up by Heather Kapplow. Feel free to bring memories of what you’ve lost as we share stories, moments of silence, and moving metaphors to help us digest our grief.

Checkerboard Borders: Experimental Film of the Global South
The screening foregrounds contemporary experimental and avant-garde films from Iran, Mexico, China, Taiwan, and Palestine that stalk the themes of memory, longing, home-coming, and displacement. All films have a unique visual and narrative approach and explore performance and performativity for, in collaboration with, or in spite of the camera.
The screening is a collaboration with Sarah Lasley and Masha Vlasova. The screening is organized in conjunction with a panel with filmmakers on March 15th (Zoom) and a lecture titled “Screening Palestine” by Dr. Nadia Yaqub on March 22nd (Zoom).
Duration 1hr 12 min
This is an asynchronous screening available for the duration of 2 weeks:

I am delighted to present In : Flux : Being an online booth with CADAF | Contemporary & Digital Art Fair featuring nine short video-art pieces and experimental films at the intersection of performance and sculpture through June 25-28.
I started working in sculpture but felt that it was too static, leading me to activate and document works on video. Little by little, some of these sculptures required protagonists to propel their motion, pushing me towards performance. I like to work outside of the studio and am inspired by specific locations. These actions unspool in mundane places, whose scenery echoes poetically in an abstract way with experiences and feelings that are hard to convey solely through narrative. Art, for me, is a ritual that has the power to disrupt reality.
These video works each follow their own absurd logic, addressing with beauty, humor and anxiety themes of migration, class, assimilation, and gender. The aim is to destabilize the viewer, where they are not quite sure what they are watching, but can’t turn away because of the mesmerizing elements within, in an effort to approach these themes from a renewed vantage.
